What is personal/private/individual training?

Private personal training means you work one-on-one with a certified personal trainer who will work with you to understand your individual goals, lifestyle, habits, body movements and anything else that may be important so that he or she can develop a customized, safe and effective program to help you make lifestyle changes to help you reach your goals.

What is semi-private or small group training?

Semi-private or small group training at the PBY Training Studio means you will work out with 1-3 other people at the same time with the same trainer. While your trainer will understand each of your goals and what you want to accomplish so that he or she can write a safe and effective program, the workout will be the same for the whole group with modifications for individual situations. Small groups are a fun, social, and cost-effective way to get a great workout!

How much does it cost?

The amount of your investment depends on a number of factors including if you do private or semi-private/small group sessions, if you do 30 or 60 minute workouts, how many times per week you come to the studio, and how many weeks or months it will take to reach your goal. We offer a variety of packages based on your motivation, commitment, and budget which may range from an investment as low as $40 per month to as high as $1500 per month. We would be happy to provide you with a specific quote for your individual situation.

What kind of exercises will I do?

The studio is fully equipped with everything your trainer may need for you to have a great workout and reach your goals. What you do specifically will depend on your individual program but may include body weight exercises, use of stability balls, bands, medicine balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, TRX suspension training, weighted body bars, plates, cables, plyometric boxes, balance discs, BOSU trainers, tires and sledge hammers, slosh pipes, treadmill, bikes, water rower, punching bags and much more!

How long will it take to see results?

You may have heard that it takes 4 weeks to start feeling changes in your body, 8 weeks for friends and family to notice, and 12 weeks for the whole world to notice – and that’s pretty accurate. To make lasting changes it takes about 3 months to start seeing a significant change. Remember, you didn’t put on the weight or develop your less-than-deal habits overnight, and they aren’t going to change overnight either. For this reason we offer comprehensive 12-week programs to help you make lifestyle changes so that when you reach your goals you know exactly what to do to maintain them – no fads or gimmicks, just smart training and hard work for a limited period of time. You can do it!

How many days a week do I need to work out?

How often you work out with us depends on your goals, motivation, commitment and budget and we offer programs from 1-4 days per week. If you are in a program with us, your trainer will give you specific ‘homework’ to do on the days you aren’t training with us. We also offer program design for people who are going to the gym on their own and just need a program to follow to help them meet their goals. Please inquire for more information on this.

Regardless of your individual goals, theAmerican Heart Association (AHA) recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least 5 days per week for a total of 150 minutes OR at least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 days per week for a total of 75 minutes (or a combination of both). The AHA also recommends 2 days per week of moderate- to high-intensity muscle strengthening activity for additional health benefits. For lowering blood pressure and cholesterol they recommend an average of 40 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity aerobic activity 3 or 4 times per week.

How long of a contract do I have to sign?

Our goal is to coach and motivate you to reach your goals, but more than anything to give you the tools to be able to maintain on your own. With that in mind, we don’t have contacts or require membership. We simply ask you to commit to the appropriate time it will take to realistically meet your goals. Once clients reach their goals they often go on a maintenance plan – either here 1 or 2 days per week with their trainer, or some join a small group, and some successfully do it on their own.

What are the membership fees?

We are a private studio and all sessions are by appointment-only with a trainer. As such, there is no drop-in access or memberships required.

Can I come in and workout whenever I want?

This enables us to maintain the friendly, safe, motivating and comfortable environment we have created which enables our clients to maximize both their time and investment with their trainer.

How do I choose a trainer?

We will gladly match you up with a trainer that is a good fit with the goals you want to accomplish, personality, and days/times you are available to train.

When are the group classes?

Our group classes are currently scheduled by appointment throughout the day. Please contact us if you are interested in joining a group or if you have a small group that would like to work out together. Also, please check back soon as we will be adding additional group classes with online sign-up.

How is a studio different from a gym?

We are a private training facility for use only by certified personal trainers and their clients. The atmosphere is very different from a gym in that we don’t offer memberships and there is no drop-in use of the studio. All sessions are scheduled by-appointment with a trainer and there will only be a couple of trainers with their clients in the studio at any given time. This enables us to offer a very friendly, comfortable, safe and private environment for you to focus on your goals and maximize your time and investment with your trainer, without the distractions or competition for equipment that you may experience at the gym.

What happens in a training session?

Everything we do at the PBY Studio is customized for our clients and their individual goals, so no two sessions are alike. That said, every session will start with a warm-up and end will a cool-down and stretching. The workout portion will consist of a pre-designed workout based on your goals a part of your 12-week plan and will have a variety of exercises and may be based on many different variables.

What is an initial consultation?

An initial consultation is your chance to see the studio, meet us and learn more about our programs, and for us to meet you and learn more about your goals to see if we would be a good fit to work together. If so, the next step is to schedule a time to do your assessments and we will give you some paperwork to complete to help us prepare your 12-week program.

How are my results measured?

Depending on your individual goals, the assessments your trainer does will vary and may include height, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) analysis, body composition and circumference measurements, heart rate and blood pressure levels, static and dynamic posture analysis, nutrition discussion, flexibility analysis, and/or various fitness assessments. These will be measured at the beginning, middle, and end of your program.

What fitness level do I need to be to start?

The fitness level you are today is perfect. We work with all fitness levels and goals of all types. We would prefer you come in right away so we can help you get started on a safe and effective program rather than spinning your wheels trying to get in a little better shapebefore you get started. What are the benefits of working with a personal trainer?

The benefits of working with a trainer are numerous and are different for each person. For some people the knowledge and specific skills of a trainer are essential for helping them prepare for a competition or rehab an injury. For others it’s learning the correct way to do exercises or which exercises they should do, or how to use the equipment at the gym so they feel more comfortable going in there and know they won’t be wasting time (or getting injured) doing things wrong. For most people it’s a combination of those things plus having the accountability and motivation of a coach to get you through each set, rep, and workout and to encourage on your way to reaching your goals.

What certifications should I look for in a trainer?

This is a great question and we are glad you asked! There are over 400 personal training certifications out there, and you can even get certified by taking an online course of the weekend. That is nothing short of frightening to us! When working with the human body (yours, specifically!) you want someone who not only has an excellent education and is certified by a nationally recognized organization but also has practical, hands-on experience. The main nationally recognized certifying agencies are the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Do you help me with my nutrition?

Absolutely! While your workouts are essential to help you get results, you absolutely can’t do it without also making changes to your diet. In fact, up to 80% of your success will depend on your nutrition. Your trainer will help you set guidelines and implement changes to help you be successful. In addition, our programs include a nutritional education program developed in partnership with Ryan Nabielski, MS, RDN, an Integrative and Functional Nutritionist and owner of Ecological Nutrition.
