Why Mary is our Client of the Month: Mary is client of the month because she shows up to every session even when she is exhausted and she is always willing to try difficult exercises. She has more tenacity in her pinky than most people do in their entire bodies! Mary is an inspiration and a warrior. Ultimately, Mary Orr is a champion. A champion falls in love with discomfort. Mary is uncomfortable most days. She is amazing!

About Mary (age 72): I retired 2 years ago after 20 years in home health management including starting agencies in Florida and Chicago. A year ago I moved back to Colorado to be closer to one of my daughters; she has a master’s degree in social work and one child with another due any day! My other daughter has a degree in nursing and is mother to three beautiful children. I lived in Colorado over 20 years ago and have wanted to get back ever since. I guess you could say the mountains have been calling my name! Ten years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and was fortunate to find a wonderful team at Swedish Medical Center who offered me opportunity to participate in a blind research program on deep brain stimulation. I am thrilled with the results so far. I have cut my medications in half and many of my symptoms have improved significantly.

Fitness Goals: I would love to return to downhill skiing, hiking, and everything else the mountains have to offer. My goal is to get as strong as I can be so I can enjoy as much as possible!

What She Likes About The PBY Studio and/or Her Trainer, Kristina Wilds: Kristina is a gift from God. I truly believe that. She is everything you could want in a trainer and we just clicked the first time we met. She is very knowledgeable and has experience working with Parkinson’s. She even knows my team at Swedish. I love the strength I’m getting through training. I also love the atmosphere at the PBY Studio. The trainers and clientele are awesome. There is an atmosphere of caring and a feeling of elegance. It is well-equipped but not crowded. Overall, it is a comfortable place to work out.

Favorite Exercise: My favorite exercise used to be running. I was planning to do a marathon when I was diagnosed. But now anything that makes me feel better is the kind of exercise I look forward to.

Least Favorite Exercise: It may sound unbelievable but I don’t have a least favorite.
