Here at PBY we are huge fans of setting goals, with a big emphasis on realistic goals.  Studies have shown that the #1 New Year's Resolution is health and fitness related, and, sadly, that more than 80% of people have already given up on those resolutions.  Some of the main reasons for this are that the goals were set too big and felt unattainable (lose 50 pounds), or too vague (lose weight), or because people just didn't know what to do or didn't have a plan (and buying that gym membership on a great New Year New You sale didn't do the trick...again this year.).  

Our advice?  It's great to have a big, long-term goal but crucial to set small milestones along the way, and be sure to celebrate when you achieve them!  Focus on changing habits that will improve your lifestyle and help ensure your success in not only reaching but maintaining your goal.  Here are some examples of realistic goals: get to the gym twice this week, cook at least 2 meals at home this week, take your lunch to work twice this week, go for a walking meeting instead of sitting in a conference room at least once each day, walk on the treadmill or ride a stationary bike while watching your favorite show instead of sitting on the couch (and eating).  

These little things will help you get new habits in place, which will help you to lose a realistic pound or two a week. In no time you'll be achieving those little milestones, setting new goals, and feeling awesome about your progress rather than defeated because you gave up.  You'll be at that long-term goal in no time!
